OK, friends and family here are the details......
We got to the hospital at 11:00am on Wednesday morning and once Laurie got all hooked up to the monitors, she realized that she actually was having contractions. Things were good until about 10:00pm when she started to have some serious pain. After a couple shots in the IV of some pain medication and 6 hours going by, the staff decided that we had made it far enough to do the epidural (sp?) so at 4:00am on Thursday morning Laurie went to the happy place. We both then managed to get a little shut eye for a couple of hours until about 6:00am when they had her begin to push. CJ was reluctant at first, but Mom managed to get the process going (with great effort I might add). By noon when her doctor checked, it became apparent that he was just NOT going to fit the exit. So at about 1:00pm she had a C-Section and within 20 minutes of entering the surgical room, I was holding the most incredible life in my hands. After a very brief few moments they whisked him away to the nursery where we had to endure 4 hours of separation from our wonderful son. After he got all checked out and had everything recorded they brought him back to us for Mom to try the first feeding. In true Barnes fashion, there was no need to tell him twice and he latched on and drank for a solid 30 minutes. Then completely content, he fell fast asleep and Mom beamed so proud I had to shed a tear or two. Everyone was right, he instantly became the most precious thing in our lives and I can't wait to get him and Mom back home. Laurie is doing great, as I knew she would and is recovering in the hospital until Sunday when they both get to come home. Enjoy these first shots as much as I know we will for many years to come and THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for the prayers and well wishes. How cool is it to have a birth date of Cinco De Mayo. 05/05/05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mom and Dad in the Labor and Delivery room Wednesday evening with nothing to report yet......

CJ in the nursery after the C-Section

Starting to move the massive arms....Just look at the size of those hands! He'll be palming a b-ball in no time!

Look at the smile of contentment after the first meal from MOM!

You can tell he's a Mammas boy already.

Baby CJ at 9lbs exactly, measuring in at 21.5 inches in length and taking up all the new born crib already.
