What we have here is an ongoing project to TOTALLY rework the entertainment system that has served us/me well for almost 15 years. But the time had come to go plasma and get rid of the floor standing speakers for some Polk Audio In-walls. Since the speakers were going in the walls and the TV was going on it, we couldn't very well have all those cables running out of the wall to equipment on a table some where. So the custom in-wall stereo cabinet had to be built and installed. These pictures document that process from first boards glued, through installation in the wall and integration of all the cabling. As of the first publication of this page, I have two of the three front speakers installed and most of the cable run. I still need an Ethernet cable (that's right, this receiver is network capable and will go catalog Internet radio stations that it finds if given an Internet connection for playing anytime), HDMI to the TV and power to the TV which of course will all be in the wall. The title of this little piece was invented by CJ and it is what he has named the new TV. When 'Super Why?' comes on (the new favorite show) he will come get Mommy and ask, "Watch Big Show??" So of course I had to use that as the title. Stay tuned....this weekend could bring a lot of progress. 9/27/07 - Eric
Well didn't get done near as much as I thought....(isn't that always the way it is?), but we did get done running the initial wiring into the cabinet. Started test fitting all the equipment and making initial cable routing plans. It is very difficult to keep AC power and speaker cables separate but that is always the goal. I have decided to build my own enclosures for the surround and rear surround speakers. I am waiting to hear back from Polk Audio technical support on the volume specifications for the two different model speakers I have. Once I get those, I'll cut the new holes in the ceiling for speakers and get the enclosures in there. We did try out some of the new stuff with the BlueRay disc "Happy Feet" and the picture was basically like nothing I've ever seen before. The detail and colors were so vivid, there was no way to take it all in as the scenes went by. If the sound quality ends up being anything like the picture - it will be the Home Theatre I was going for. 9/30/07- Eric
Progress has been slow and steady. We finally said bye to digital cable and signed up for DirectTV HD. The picture quality on the Sat is just way better. Finished with the fronts and center, started filling the wall with insulation which will deaden the sound in our room and help the center channel sound cleaner. After consulting with Polk Audio technical support, they supplied me with the required internal volume for the rear speakers and I am making my own custom enclosures to put them in. I've got one box in and just need to patch the ceiling then I'll start working on the other side. I can access that one from above, so it should be much easier. Next will be to position and mount the mid surrounds which need no enclosures. Hurray!! I also wired our bedroom for a set of speakers and put in a separate volume control. I have one more speaker run to make which will be in Laurie's office. I need to finish that off so I can begin to put the new sheetrock on our wall & finish the insulation. - 10/09/09 - Eric
